Spring Term 2
We kicked off Spring Term 2 with a new topic about Toys. The children especially enjoyed making and, more importantly, playing with the cup and ball games they made. We even had a challenge to see who could catch the most in 3 minutes.
We also celebrated Pancake Day today by making delicious American style pancakes. Miss Hickie showed the children how to separate an egg and they learned the names of the parts of the egg too. They were amazed at the change in the egg white when it was whisked and used lots of great vocabulary in describing it.... 'it looks like clouds' was a firm favourite. Of course, the best bit was eating them and they chose their own toppings (Biscoff spread proved to be a big hit!)
Owl's have had a busy but great Literacy/Book Week. We watched Axel Scheffler show us how to draw illustrations and listened to him read two stories. We thoroughly enjoyed a visit from local author Clare Bond and also had fun joining in with Sita Brand's online story telling of the Three Little Pigs which she told using puppets. We all enjoyed our bedtime story afternoon, where we drank hot chocolate, ate biscuits and listened to Mrs Hardwicks's favourite stories. Most of the children's highlight of the week, was Year 6 reading our favourite stories to them. We loved seeing them so much!
The children have also enjoyed celebrating St Piran's Day. They learned all about St Piran, where he came from, what made him so special, why the Cornish flag is black and white along with what makes Cornwall such a wonderful place to live.
We also had great fun making traditional Cornish heavy cakes. They smelt heavenly and tasted delicious. Well done Owl's!!
